Alveston Tea Set, Robert Welch
Alveston Tea Set, Robert Welch
A tea set comprising tea pot, hot water jug, milk jug and sugar bowl from the ‘Alveston’ range designed by Robert Welch in 1962 for Old Hall Tableware Ltd.
The tea pot - also known as the ‘Aladdin’s Lamp’ tea pot - has a circular flat sided body with chamfered top and base and spout extruded from the body. The handle is a flat strip of stainless steel bent at two acute angles and attached to the rear, and the conical, detachable lid is topped with an inverted, conical knob.
With its geometric aesthetic, the tea set forms part of the permanent collections at both the V&A and British Museum.
Each piece is stamped ‘Designed by R. Welch | OLD HALL | England | 18/8 Stainless Steel’ to the underside.
The set is in excellent vintage condition, with one small ding to the rim of the sugar bowl as shown in the photos.
